Unmasking What Matters

The longest-running Christine from "The Phantom of the Opera," Sandra Joseph steps off of Broadway to inspire audiences in a new way

Sandra Joseph played the role of Christine Daaé in the "The Phantom of the Opera" for nearly a decade. Now, she is using her voice in a new way — as an author, keynote speaker and thought leader — to inspire audiences everywhere. Her new book — "Unmasking What Matters: 10 Life Lessons from 10 Years on Broadway" — launched on January 23, 2018 in step with the 30th anniversary of "The Phantom of the Opera," which occurred on January 26th and will be celebrated all year long.

"Make your life into a work of art that is a true reflection of who you are in all of your unmasked, imperfect glory."

After 10 years on Broadway, Sandra Joseph — the longest-running leading lady in Broadway’s longest-running show, "The Phantom of the Opera" — knows one thing for sure: the only way to have a truly fulfilling life and achieve success that satisfies is to recognize that the journey up is no substitute for the journey in.

In her new book, "Unmasking What Matters," Joseph pulls back the curtain and dares to reveal what really happens on the long road to success. She uses lessons learned on the road to Broadway, during her decade as Christine and through the challenges she faced after walking away from the business to show readers how to courageously bring their inner voice to the outer world, stop seeking success for achievement’s sake and start creating the life they truly desire.

(Read praise about Sandra's book from: Jack Canfield, Martha Beck, Mark Nepo, SARK, Kris Carr, Marci Shimoff, Sam Horn, JJ Virgin, Barnet Bain and more.)

With her hard-won wisdom, poignant personal stories, and practical, experiential exercises to guide them, readers will learn to shed their limiting masks, mindfully work through their fears, stand in their authentic power, and build a life rich with satisfaction, meaning, and significance. Warm, humble, encouraging, and inspiring, "Unmasking What Matters" can help anyone move from stuck, fearful, and playing it safe to embracing their passions, gifts, and opportunities and living life full out today.

The Message of Unmasking

"The key to everything we are seeking lies in our willingness to live an unmasked life."

As an author and keynote speaker, Sandra Joseph uses her voice to share an inspiring message of authenticity, perseverance, peak performance, and creating a life of meaning, purpose, and significance.

“I want to use my voice and the platform 'Phantom' has given me to inspire people to shed their limiting identities, their masks,” says Joseph. “I want to help people move through self-doubt and live lives that are the truest, fullest expression of who they are inside. The tools I share give people the mental, emotional, and spiritual loft to achieve their goals and create the life they desire without in any way trivializing the demands of the journey.”

Sandra faced crippling stage fright and years of rejection before she went on to become the longest-running leading lady in Broadway's longest-running show. At the height of her success, she struggled with self-doubt and imposter syndrome. But after a scary diagnosis and the sudden loss of her beloved father rearranged her from the inside out, Sandra got crystal clear about what truly matters. Now, she has dedicated herself to creating a life of meaning and helping others to do the same.

“In our distracted, celebrity-obsessed culture, 'compare despair' is rampant,” Sandra says. “We are addicted to doing, climbing, and achieving, failing to realize that the journey upward won't lead us to what we're truly seeking. What matters most comes from the journey inward. I want us all to go after our dreams, but we must start with a foundation of inherent self-worth or the success we achieve won't satisfy. We must avoid the trap of seeking outside ourselves to know that we matter. Just as Christine learned to love the unmasked Phantom, we must recognize, on a deep level, that who we are behind the mask is profoundly enough.“
